Internship

This is some of the footage that I shot at her ABC 27 internship. Each video was shot, edited and written by me. It was exciting to be able to get the news out to the community.

Deputy & Suspect Shooting

Within the first few minutes of hearing about this shooting, my news director asked me to go out, get video and some information that we could use in the 7 p.m. show. This was my very first time covering a shooting and I was excited!

Wakulla Co. Fallen Officers Ceremony
I was able to attend a Fallen Officers Ceremony in Wakulla Co. It was really cool to see the officers show their respects to their fellow co-workers. The ceremony was for those officers who died in the line of duty. Although death is a sad occasion, I was moved to see their families and friends receive awards for their hard work.

Bank Robbery at Farmers & Merchants Bank
I was given the opportunity to go to the scene of a bank robbery. This was my first time experiencing a bank robbery. The news director sent me here within the first few weeks of the internship. I never expected it. I will say that I got a huge adrenaline rush being on this scene. It was great...well not for the bank.

The Evan Wilhelm Case
From 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. I sat at the sentencing for Evan Wilhelm. He accidentally shot and killed his ex-girlfriend's twin sister at a party. When I was asked to cover the story, I didn't mind but I was also clueless about what to expect. I definitely did not think that the sentencing would be as long and extensive as it was. Apparently my news director didn't expect it either. She thought that it would be as simple as the judge telling us how much time Wilhelm would get. It was that and more. The first part of the sentencing we listened to Wilhelm's family cry and plead to the judge to have mercy. He and his lawyer also spoke. That went on for about 2 hours. The next part we listened to the victim's, Ashley Cowie, family and friends. This is where it got really emotional for me. It was just really sad to see the pain and hurt in their eyes. Cowie's twin sister spoke. After, there wasn't a dry eye in the courtroom. Cowie's family just wanted the judge to give Wilhelm the time that he deserved. This sentencing was like something out of a movie. The actual gun that was used to kill her was literally only a couple feet away from me. It was unlike anything I'd ever witnessed. I never thought that I would be at such an important case as just an intern. I was there with other professional reporters from other stations and I felt honored. This sentencing really changed my view on reporting and I'm thankful for that experience.
